Hannah officially turned 8 on April 21st, and she celebrated the occasion the following Friday by inviting several friends to a Harry Potter party. It was a smashing success--especially considering the chaos of Meg's party! The decorations were up and the food ready several hours before the party started and there was no last minute sewing! Yea Mom! (Thanks to Dad's moderating influence in the planning process! Ha ha!)
Without a doubt, Hannah's favorite gifts were a Hogwarts cloak made by Grandma Snarr and a wand made by Jeff (with a little help from Joe Halloran).
When the guests arrived, they each made a magic wand and began practicing spells. What wizarding party would be complete without magic wands?? The guests were then sorted into their various houses and then escorted into the Great Hall for a feast prepared by house elves. They then attended Potions Class complete with fizzing explosive potions where each student received full marks in the form of golden sickles and knuts. (This picture is of the potions
aftermath.) Next, a group of magical creatures (stuffed animals) had been abducted by mermen and taken to the bottom of a lake. The party guests had to rescue them by means of a creative very active adventure led by Jeff and Mad Eye Moody (Aaron). Then it was time for Transfiguration, where again the students were awarded full points. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but I think next were cupcakes, and then shopping at Honey Dukes with their sickles and knuts for Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, Cockroach Clusters, Chocolate Wands,Candied Flobberworms, and Cat Eye Candies. Guests then relaxed by watching (drumroll) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone while waiting for their parents to arrive. A good time was had by all, but most particularly I think by the 3 children who were actually dressed as Hogwarts students. Hermione, Ginny, and Harry himself were actually in attendance, and were appropriately sorted into Gryffindor. (Uh, that'd be Hannah and her two like-minded friends Jennifer and Steven.)
Here's a little video. I think the video was tampered with by a hex after Sara expertly shot it . . .

Wow. It looks like Hannah's party was a hit! How fun!
holy super parents! can I be your girl also?
Their parties are my guilty pleasure. It gives me freedom to act like an 8 year old again! The best part is, though, we spent less than $30! We're such cheapskates.
